Start with 30 minutes.
No deck, no pitch. Bring the problem — the slow quote, the stalled pilot, the acquisition that won’t integrate, the exam finding — and leave with a sharper picture of it than you arrived with.
You don’t need to prepare anything. But if you want the thirty minutes to be worth more than thirty minutes, these four things are what make it so.
- The process that’s actually too slow. Not the AI idea — the workflow. Which documents arrive, who reads them, what they’re waiting on.
- What’s been tried before, and what happened to it. This one question predicts more about an engagement’s outcome than anything else.
- Who has to say yes. The model-risk committee, the CFO, the sponsor, the board — whoever can stop it in month four.
- The number that would make it worth doing. Even a rough one: hours returned, cycle days saved, hit ratio, basis points.
Fixed fee, scoped in the first call. No hourly billing; success metrics are written into the SOW before work starts.

Operating Alpha covers AI and value creation in private capital — including original teardowns built from public filings.
Answered plainly.
What is fractional AI leadership?
A senior AI executive who leads your firm’s AI strategy, governance, and delivery on a part-time retainer instead of a full-time hire. The model fits firms with serious AI ambitions and a leadership gap: large enough to need the judgment, lean enough that a full-time C-suite AI hire doesn’t pencil.
How do engagements price?
Every engagement is fixed-fee, scoped to firm size and regulatory complexity in the first conversation — no hourly billing. Success metrics are written into the SOW before work starts, and the first conversation itself costs nothing.
Do you only work with the five named specialisms?
No. They’re where the practice is deepest, but the same document-heavy, regulator-facing problems show up across financial services — reinsurers, fund administrators, wealth and asset management platforms, verification firms, asset servicers. If your business is a regulated balance sheet or the capital and services around one, we should talk.
Who actually does the work?
Strategy, architecture, and governance are led personally by the founder. Implementation is delivered by a vetted bench of specialist engineers — document-AI engineers, data platform builders, quantitative modelers — working under his review.
Who owns what we build?
You do. All work product lives in your environment as it’s created — if an engagement ended tomorrow, you’d keep everything of value. And we accept no referral fees or commissions from any vendor, so a recommendation is never a resale.
